Valentine's Day is coming up and the kids are enthusiastic about creating crafts for that special day. This heart rocketship is very easy to make and the best part about it is you can use items you already have. Take a paper towel roll and wrap it in aluminum foil. Then create some hearts to finish your design.
The last couple of weeks have been pretty crazy. My husband and I have been wanting to redecorate our home for awhile now and since the holidays have ended and it is the beginning of a new year, I'd like to make some changes. One of the biggest challenges I find in any home improvement project is creating a budget. The holidays created a small strain on our budget and my business is usually a little slow around that time also, so there was a dip in our income. This is the third time that I am taking on such a challenging but also creatively fulfilling project, so I thought that I would share some frugal tips on sprucing up your home:
1.) Break it up room by room or by project. You don’t have to redo your whole home all at once. Take your time and break it up room by room or by project.
2. Paint is a quick, easy and inexpensive way to improve the appearance of your home. You can use a wall as a focal area and paint it a rich shade of the rest of the room.
3. Use what you already have. You’re not going to get a better deal than using items you already own. Give your pieces a makeover. Instead of buying a new sofa or chairs, use slipcovers to transform your furniture. I have a few slipcovers that I swap for the different seasons.
4. Look for the “diamond in the rough”. I have also found many quality items at consignment stores and yard and garage sales that I was able to restore inexpensively.
One of my favorite pastimes is visiting antique stores during my travels. It’s amazing what kind of gems you’ll find in these cozy little shops. I once found a beautiful rocking chair and knew it would be perfect for a pregnant friend. I could just imagine her rocking her baby to sleep while she was comfortably resting in it.
